“Streaming for the masses”

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland relaunches TV Now as a new streaming service aimed at a broad target group. With immediate effect, TV Now is offering a wide range of exclusive new programmes, live content and the most popular German and US series in a new premium package at only €4.99 a month. Subscribers to the service will now be able to watch many new Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland formats before they air on television as well as having access to an extensive archive of premium content.

TV Now focuses on local content. Below, an overview of the features and content:

  • Exclusive German productions such as M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder with Moritz Bleibtreu, Ude Kier, Verena Altenberger and Bela B.
  • Popular new reality shows like Temptation Island and Survivor
  • Exclusive international series like Die Wahrheit über den Fall Harry Quebert (The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair) with Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey
  • All 13 Free-TV and Pay-TV channels of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland live and on demand in HD

  • Extensive offering of German and international series highlights

Jan Wachtel, Chief Digital Content Officer of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and Managing Director of RTL Interactive, says: “We want TV Now to entertain, inform and resonate with people all over Germany. We’re launching a new, fully comprehensive, stand-alone streaming service for the mass market. We want to win over our customers by offering them an extensive portfolio of in-house productions, licensed formats and strong Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland content. Our focus in all this will be on German content. No other streaming service will offer such a wide range of high-quality live events, show highlights, series and documentaries.
Furthermore, over the coming year, TV Now will present two new smashing reality hits, the dating format Temptation Island and the adventure show Survivor. Key components of this new TV Now offering include exclusive pre-releases or pre-TV viewings of entire new seasons or new single episodes of popular Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland series, such as Magda macht das schon! (Magda Will Take Care Of It) and Der Lehrer (The Teacher). In January, TV Now subscribers can look forward to an exciting new British series adaptation of the Agatha Christie thriller And Then There Were None.

German premiere of M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder
This coming spring, the drama series M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (M – A City Searches for a Murderer) will be exclusively available in Germany on TV Now. The TV Now original is a remake of the eponymous film classic M, by Fritz Lang.

Other pleasures in store for TV Now subscribers over the coming year include exclusive award-winning series like Die Wahrheit über den Fall Harry Quebert (The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair), a series adapted from the bestseller by Joël Dicker, featuring Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey. Another integral feature of the new, improved TV Now platform is the offer of a wide range of programmes including entire seasons of outstanding, popular US series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, CSI and Navy CIS and Bones.

For the first time ever, TV Now subscribers looking for something exciting, informative, entertaining, romantic or award-winning to watch will also have access to all pay-TV channels of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, namely RTL Crime, Geo Television, RTL Passion and RTL Living. A generous selection of formats will also be available on demand.
TV Now consistently focuses on local content
Alongside the content produced in-house by Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, further German content will be regularly added through cooperation with commercial subsidiaries of public-service broadcasters. For example, the six-part series of the Oscar-nominated film Das Boot (The Boat) by Wolfgang Petersen, starring Jürgen Prochnow and Herbert Grönemeyer can now be watched on TV Now. TV Now subscribers can also stream hit series like Mord mit Aussicht (Murder With A View), Wilsberg, Der Bergdoktor (The Mountain Doctor), Bloch, Kudamm 56, Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (Generation War) and all episodes of the series Türkisch für Anfänger (Turkish For Beginners), starring Elyas M’Barek.

TV Now’s premium package costs just €4,99 a month
The new content is now available in HD quality on all devices as a premium package costing only €4.99 per month with only one advertisement before the start of each programme. New subscribers can try out the offer for 30 days free of charge. Meanwhile, the free TV Now package remains available, enabling viewers to stream series and shows they may have missed, generally for up to seven days after the TV airdate For the launch of the new-look TV Now, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has also redesigned the user interfaces of the websites and apps. Following the makeover of the graphics of the new product, in the weeks to come further improvements will be made to the platform’s user guidance. TV Now is marketed by the Ad Alliance.
Technical availability:
Subscribers can access TV Now via desktop computers, smartphones, tablets, Apple streaming boxes, Apple TV apps, Amazon Fire TV or Android TV and also stream content to the big screen. There are plans to further expand the technical reach via further platforms in 2019.
The following channels can be streamed live via TV Now:
RTL Television, Vox, RTL II, N-TV, Nitro, RTL Plus, Now US, Super RTL, Toggo Plus, RTL Crime, RTL Passion, RTL Living and Geo Television.
